Mrs James with her M.B.E and Maundy money

Charity Search was founded in the latter part of the 1980s by the late Mrs Auriel James M.B.E.

It all began when she was trying to help an elderly relative, who had fallen on hard times, despite working hard his whole life. Through her endeavours to help him she began to explore the charity field, and decided to put this knowledge to good use by establishing a charity.

She started by using £5 of her old age pension, for stationary and stamps, and began to write to the few charities she already knew of. From this little acorn a sturdy oak has formed, and, thanks to her, we continue to offer this free service to older individuals.

Auriel James was honoured by Her Majesty the Queen in 1999, being appointed an M.B.E, that same year she was also the recipient of the Maundy money.
